Overspun warp threads mesh with tighter weft threads to create the distinctive nubby texture of chirimen, a silk crepe used to make kimono since the late 16th century. NUNO’s modern take on this precious Japanese textile, the “New Papillon” scarf, incorporates tufts of silk thread to give the fabric the fluttery look of butterfly wings--the symbol of transformation.
